School Events
Our staff, students and families have many opportunities to connect and participate in a range of fun events during the school calendar. Check out the pictures below to see what we get up to!
Excursions
Each year, we try and provide as many learning opportunities for our students outside of the classroom as possible, to enrich and connect their knowledge in a different way. Some of our excursions have included visits to the Art Gallery, Adelaide/Monarto Zoo, live show performances (Murray Bridge town hall, Festival Theatre) & swimming lessons.
Book Week
Book week at Callington PS is celebrated in August. This is a week of celebrating our love for reading which includes shared reading with families, classmates, and the whole school, a dress up parade, competitions and a bookfair. Lots of fun is had by all.
Camps
School camps are a valuable experience for students where they have the chance to develop so many important life skills (e.g. resilience, persistence, confidence, courage, responsibility). At Callington PS our year 2-6 students have the opportunity to go on a 3 day camp every second year with the Rec and Year 1 students joining them for a day trip. In the past our students have been lucky enough to go to El Shaddai, Woodhouse and Arbury Park.
Fundraising Events
Fundraising provides an avenue for our students to enjoy some fun events as part of the school calendar and at the same time, raise vital funds to support school improvements and provide subsidies for our families throughout the year. Our fundraising events are run and organised by the fundraising committee (part of our Governing Council) and bring a lovely feeling of community to our school. Past events have included a pie drive, Mother’s and Father’s Day stalls, dress up days, pyjama days, colour fun runs and a stall at the Callington Show. We always welcome new ideas and helpers.
Concert
Our school concert is such a highlight for students, staff and families at Callington. We have a very talented Arts teacher who coordinates a whole school musical concert that is showcased to families and the community every second year in the Callington town hall. Students spend weeks learning lines, practising songs and making props to bring together a spectacular performance for all to enjoy.
Sports Day
Term 1 heralds our annual Sports Day at the Callington Community Oval. It is a day to celebrate physical activity and is a culmination of student practice in many athletic events (e.g. hurdles, high jump, sprints, long jump etc) with some fun events thrown in for good measure. When students enrol in our school, they are allocated a sports house team, either Murray (yellow), Bremer (blue) or Angas (red) and compete against each other with excitement, passion, spirit and good sportsmanship to do their personal best and the best for their team.
